I　was told very rare shooters use flatband with 7/16 steel balls. and 7/16 steel balls often used with tube band.

Is that true?

 

Most of our members prefer flat bands, no matter what ammo. I like thin tubes like 2040, and shoot up to 1/2 lead with them. Try 3/4 inch Theraband Gold or pure latex, about 7 inches long for 7/8 steel.

 

The3/4 theraband around 7 in is good, but also I use 1745’s a lot for about everything, different lengths doubled, just experiment, that’s more fun anyway.

 

Perry from A+ Slingshots makes some slingshots that are great for large ammo. He even makes his pouches bigger than average for shooting rocks. His tube set ups are nice and strong (not the whimmpy little Chinese tubes) for use with larger ammo such as 7/16 and 1/2. I have the Kit Fox and love the way it shoots not to mention that it is a thing of beauty.

1745 is great for the really heavy stuff, but for me, I get the same or slightly better performance from 2040 loops up to 1/2 lead. That may be more a reflection on my aging muscles than the rubber, though.

 

I pretty much shoot only 7/16 steel. I agree with Henry but I would take the 7 inch band and taper it so that it is 7 x 3/4 x 1/2. You will get more speed by tapering the bands.
