Powerful slingshot with hand tools!

17 September 2010 - 10:50 AM

Well this is by far the hardest shooting slingshot I now have! I measured the draw at almost 40lbs, and it proves that when shooting. Very hard on the wrist and forearm... but that's OK. I love the power and simplicity of it, so thanks Jörg you do awesome work!

I think I'm actually going to cut the threads further up the eye bolts and lower the forks a bit, that should help a bit.

Now I need some decent leather to make a better pouch, and what I really need is some heavy ammo!

Glad I didn't go down in this jacket!

First of all, this forum is evil! I can't stop shooting and making slingshots!!

Thanks Joerg, your videos are awesome and your designs are even better! This slingshot was so simple to make, and seemed to powerful that I had to throw a few buck into some hardware and built it! Unfortunately my first attempt with modeling clay didn't work out. I'm planning another handle soon.

But even without the handle I had to take a few shots at a can! Well my first pouch was very thin at the ends and ripped fairly quickly... I got a few shots off with this one before it ripped! I obviously need some better leather? I rode with this jacket for years, good thing I never tested it on the asphalt!!

I assume my holes made with a knife contributed to the further ripping of the pouch? I need a leather punch, but they seem cheap enough.

Also, Flatband, your inbox is full! PM me if your read this, I would like to just buy some quality pouches from you for now to get shooting ASAP!!

Has anyone tried these bands before?

I'm a powerlifter and we use bands in our training. But not like the thera bands, they come as a continuous loop and come in many different sizes and strengths. Here is a link that I found on ebay, its for a set of monster mini bands, the second strongest.

Has anyone ever tried them on a catapult?

Making a target box

At first I was thinking of just hanging some old clothes in the back, and taping some cardboard to the front to attach paper targets to.

But now I see some of you guys shooting into boxes that have hanging metal objects.

My question is this. I assume with either target style the main component is some kind of cushion at the back of the box? Whats the best way to make this box work with both styles of targets? How much cushion do I need?

Thanks... I want to get this box setup and start shooting. I just want to make sure I limit the ricocheting! B)

Finger Groove

29 July 2010 - 07:04 PM

Well, I've been carving all day. This time with great results due to using a limb that had been cut moths ago, and dried naturally.
I'm not sure what the tree was, can anyone identify it?

So opinions please, but remember this is just after whittling and filing. I still want to deepen the finger grooves slightly, and maybe widen them a bit more?

I was also thinking of some kind of wrist strap? A hole with some string?

What kind of bands and how should I attach them? I'm tossed between grooves (flat band over top), or holes (round band through holes).

And what do you think is the best placement for my thumb?
