Long Island Summer Shootout #2
14 June 2011 - 04:19 PM
Ok folks, I'm organizing another Long Island NY shootout this Saturday. Details below:
Schedule:
Date; Saturday June 18th , 2011
Time; 9am meet for Breakfast
Restaurant Address:
CELEBRITY DINER
312 Jericho Tpke
Syosset, NY 11791-4518
(516) 364-1970
After a good breakfast we will head down to the shooting fields at around 10am : Targets will be metal cans, bottles, plates and this time paper targets. Brining a few targets, it'll help!
A small competition will be set at 11 yards and 25 yards for 3" and 6" paper targets.
What not to bring: 3/8" steel balls - I got plenty. Bring your larger shot if you want to shoot it. Oh yes bring your slingshots!
Lunch : We'll be ordering Pizza or a sub.
We will be shooting until whenever we decide to quit.
So get ready for another fine Metal Denting day.
Peresh.
P.S (You can bring your better half. Mine shoots so she and my son will be there)

Promoting our sport

Guys when I first start shooting, I immediately contacted a few people in my area and set up a shoot! I emailed a few and got our own NY/NJ group together. I didn't waste time. From the get togethers, we all got better in shooting. When you see our videos when we first got together and what we shoot now, there's a big difference. (Ask Philly or even Gary) The exchange of ideas, sharing tips, finding faults to better ourselves and commardary is what matters.
Many of you are avid shooters and are shooting alone in your yards. Find people in this forum by searching your state. If Gary Flatband can come to my shoot driving 2 hours than people can meet up in your area.
Find people that are close to you within 2-3 hours of drive distance and invite them over. The important thing is the first shoot. Many people here want to get together but don't take the initiative. After the first shoot, it will become addictive. The people in the group will start missing the shoot and before you know it will call you and want another and another! You can ask anyone in our group how bad the itch can get if we don't shoot together every so often.
We need such groups set up all over the U.S! Small groups will grow as more people will find out. Start with just 2-3 people in your area. I guarantee you, it will grow.
Let's go guys, I have done it, you can do it.

Smitty rocks the house!

My son Arjun got a nice surprise in the mail when Smitty sent him tournament winner pattern plus 3 other slingshots. Arjun had asked him for a pattern but he ended up with more than the pattern. A very generous guy he is. Thank you Smitty. We are happy to be part of such a great family.
We finally did a board cut from his pattern that he sent.
I ended up reducing the handle to fit Arjun's hand. Truth be told that ever since I made this, I have been shooting this frame and even put my own design down. This frame looks rather unique in a sense that one fork looks bigger than the other when held straight but magic happens when you aim to shoot. It levels off reducing wrist pressure and it's probably the most accurate slingshot I have ever shot. The thick body of it absorbs a lot of the after shock after release making this design stable. Shortening the handle scrunches the fingers and I seem to get better support. I reduce the handle and made it thinner a bit so index, ring and pink can almost wrap around. Put a hole for a Lanyard and I have been shooting this ever since.
Arjun is making a similar one that drew for but reducing the width a bit as it is a little too wide from his hand.
