I know "some" here are interested in reading/hearing about historical slingshots. Saw this article from the UK Telegraph Feb 13 2010
http://www.telegraph...evon-coast.html
Snippet for those that don't wanna follow:
"In total, 295 artefacts have so far been recovered, weighing a total of more than 84kg. The cargo recovered includes 259 copper ingots and 27 tin ingots. Also found was a bronze leaf sword, two stone artefacts that could have been sling shots, and three gold wrist torcs – or bracelets."
Though just a passing mention of a possible artifact...interesting none the less.
I would love to see the slingshots from 900 BC era! Any of the UK people have links or pics of the find?

Been like forever

but not really. I opened the box this a.m. , slightly peeved at life, and was about to yell at the postmaster about over stuffing my box. Smalltown USA here... the postmaster is an old friend from back in the day so his remark of "You'll manage...deal with it" met my stare down and forced a schoolboy grin on my face. Recognizing "Royal Mail" stamping I calmed a bit and gingerly tugged and twisted the package free (which under the circumstances I'm living was the equivalent of a 5 year old ripping Christmas presents open ). Scurrying my butt back across the street to open the package from Pete at Hogans Castings... Other than the Leatherman used to open it...wasn't much different than Christmas' of yore.

with raised eyebrows at the very well packed shipping envelope ... 1 , 2 ...3? I'd forgotten what Pete had offered? Old age I guess they say the body starts to go first... mind is on it's way too
Carefully executing the cut across the tops of the netted bubble wrap... the SkittyBlacktail landed first. Gorgeous!
Can a basic black s'shot be termed "Gorgeous"? I do believe so.
The 2nd package revealed a surprise to me...check it!

Immortalized in metal...there I be!

Exxxxxxcellent! They both feel and handle as the original with a bit of welcome weight. Most magnificent work from Hogans Castings! Haven't banded them up - will be awhile I'm afraid, but will be 1st on my list as soon as I can.
Oh and ...Welcome Home my world travelling SkittyBaby

<sigh> Thanks Pete! We need to settle up, drop me a line please?

BWM at the news stand

Was browsing at the newsstand and noticed the new issue of Backwoodsman Magazine(July/August 2010 Vol 31 No.4). Started paging through and saw a name I actually recognized!? Sealed the deal by purchasing it just because our own TexShooter has a paragraph in the "Letters" column. The whole magazine is worth the money and they do have a lot of info that most slingshot enthusiasts would/will enjoy -so if you see the magazine check it out.
Well! I'll be da...

nged SURPRISED
Stopped over to the PO box... opened and reached in. Only about an inch because there was a parcel stuffed in it and wedged snuggly. Working it loose, I glanced at the return addy
<- that beams across my face because I know it's something special... I wasn't disappointed with that thought. Hurrying back home ripping the package open just inside the door *Gasp* ... That DayHiker guy is some kinda craftsman! Very kinda Craftsman. This is what was in the package

a Lil Beauty done up as hand filling as a full size fork but naturally shrunk to lil'pution dimensions.

Good Gosh Man does this feeeel just right!

Thank YOU Bill!
Very beautiful fork.
Is this the result of the salt boil concoction we were talking about?
I will be putting a 1/2 of a TexShooter Express set on it with a wee lil pouch in 2oz tan should make it *just* right all around. .

Had a convo recently about finishing, or in my case... zealously "over finishing"
Hey it's my catty and I'll sand if I want to LoL. It is indeed a labor of love for me, I really *do* like nicely finished wood. Heart and soul they say. Even so it is a slingshot and should be shot, right? With that love...there is pain - can't be one without the other...today has been one of those days.

2000 bearings have passed over Mini Skitty Tail's forks and every moment, from just a board to the last finishing touch, has been fun. Shot 2001...fork hit. Dang it! 2002 ... *another* fork hit. Long story short- this dogs day in the sun is done. With a moral...inspect your fork, inspect your blasted fork , inspect your dang blasted fork!

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free...
