a few just about finished

14 March 2017 - 04:31 PM

Here's a few that were finished in BLO and have 1 coat of paste wax, I'll add another coat of wax in a few days.

I found some thin pieces of Yellowheart and used it in 2 of these. One is layered with paper micarta and the other is Yellowheart and Padauk.  The black butted one is buffalo horn pinned with aluminum tubing filled with green chalk and epoxy.

3 of the forks are Oak, the red/yellow striped butt fork, I'm not sure what it is.  All of them fit my hand just fine!  :naughty:

Winter evenings.....

Here a few that I've been tinkering with during those long winter nites when basement shooting gets boring.  All of them are Oak except the lightest colored one, it's Crepe Myrtle I found while in Virginia over the holidays. I was excited when I found it in a limb pile but there really isn't much grain, next time I find one I think I'll just leave the bark on.

first of the new year

I made one very similar to this a while back and really liked the way it looked so I gave it another go.  It's an Oak fork with homemade paper micarta and green acylic scacers.  This one came out really nice, my little frogs were from my late father in law's dresser after he passed away last year.  Cheers!  :naughty:

Fork it!

It's almost winter here in Northern Michigan, so that means long nights with not much to do.

The first one is Red Oak with a black/yellow paper micarta spacer with a Bubinga end cap.  ( I get too much grief by adding butts)  LOL

The second one is White Oak with green/yellow paper micarta spacers and a piece of acrylic taken from a ski wax scraper.  It looks so cool, I wanted to try it again on a slightly larger fork.

Both are finished with 220/BLO sanding and finish paste wax.

Here are 2 Oak forks that are almost finished. I still need to apply a finish paste wax to make them really shine but thought I'd post them anyways.  I was sent the blue Spectra Ply and just couldn't wait to include it in a frame, the BLO has darkened it a bit but I still really dig it.

The other has a red/black slab of micarta which was a surprise gift sent to me, I added an Ebony butt to cap it off and it came out really cool.  I'll get them shined up in the next couple days and band the up so my little Rat Fink can put them to good use.
