Hi folks..
Not really modified at all..except I have it setup with double , gold, theraband, flats.
Also I am using Kangaroo leather, formed pouch, that I got from Blue Skeen.
This setup is most accurate and fast too.
I am bringing it to the woods this weekend, along with my bow.
Bow for deer...and Cougar for squirrels :)
I can hardly wait.
Tom

I am pretty sure that was the one I made for Dayhiker, Tom. It has the same hard to find thick carbon fibre scales, white vulcan fibre spacer, the sanding marks on the Corby bolts are the same and the carbon fibre pattern is the same too. Anyway if it is the same one, it does shoot beautifully. The frame core is heavy and stable and the generous carbon fibre scales really fills the palm.

Here's the one I made sitting on my carpet.

Really nice, I just love the thick CF scales.

Good luck on the hunt!

I can't find the original thread. Here are the pics I posted before:

The slingshot came to me from Dayhiker worse for wear and dinged-up by fork hits. I had volunteered to sort it for him and he requested some wooden slabs be done as Jörg had. I sanded out the dents and spent hours polishing the fork arms and the are that would be hard to reach once the slabs went on. I found some incredibly hard to cut but gloriously thick full carbon fibre material i had saved for knifemaking and shaped, pre-drilled and adhered them, also pinning with steel Corby bolts. These look like pins but are bolts that are cleverly lathe turned so that they don't shot the thread when sanded flush. I decided to use white vulcan fibre spacers for additional contrast and to emphasise the delineation. I sanded and brought the handle up to a high polish and competed it with the original fork arm sleeves that I refurbished by simply washing them and turning them inside out.

I retied a new set of single bands as this job pre-dates the Fastbands. I much prefer the tying method I used originally to the way they are tied in the picture at top. On my Dayhiker I had each band come loose one by one and slap me twice in the face; the knots just wouldn't hold more than ten or twenty shots. I like the new pouch though.

Makes me want to modify my cougar!!! Even with some wood, that modification looks like it would really suit my palm!

Nice work. B)

This sling shot should be called the " Maltese Falcon", it has already amassed more lore!

I'm sitting in my workshop fondling a basswood mockup of a new and radically different ergonomic version. Pics to follow shortly.

I can't wait to see a nice egronomic custom handle on a Cougar, it's a great slingshot but it really starts to hurt my hand after a hour of target shooting

Thanks for the flattery in reminding us of this project, Tom. ^_^ It was a very special one-off that took many hours of careful but satisfying finish work. As you know I am a big fan of your own work, but I kind of miss that slingshot and don't fancy the time, itch, splinters and black lung I'd get making another like that. If you tire of it, I have a like-new Dayhiker and/or other slingshots to trade! :)

Here's a teaser. I am in the process of designing a new modification project. You can only go so far on paper, so tonight I made a mock-up of one possible version in basswood. Basswood is cheap and very fast to cut carve and sand. The black stripe is an epoxy inlay. The design concept was to honour Jörg's design as much as possible, but make it more ergonomic and demonstrate new skills and techniques. The actual slabs would be polished stainless steel fixed in place with an invisible TIG weld. All would be sanded flush so that it looks like one solid heavy piece of polished steel. The inlay could be carbon fibre or mammoth ivory bark.

As it stands tonight, it's fairly good but I will most likely abandon this shape and try again. The ergonomics are good and these new style-slabs with the big pinkie hole really give great purchase and remain comfortable against the palm. Jörg got it spot on when he designed that and I'm glad to be able to use it and not cover it up as past modifications have. I tried to preserve the look of the top slot, with the rectangular inlay, but I think Jörg meant to cover it up as it was only to hide the cord ends, so I will probably take some liberties with the design and make a larger and more complicated inlay that follows the curve of the pinkie hole. I will most probably abandon the palm side design too. It feels comfortable, but it's a bit bulky looking and I prefer the idea of two slabs like the current front piece on either side. I might also change the profile from a wedge back to the rounded ends, or I might do a fat palm swell like Jörg did recently. I guess there's only one way to know for sure and that's to mock them all up! :(:P

It's hard to judge something without actually holding it, esp with a grip involving the traditional thumb and forefinger bracing (which affects the optimal style of grip for the other 3 fingers. I've never held an unwrapped cougar frame, so it's especially hard to know what to recommend.

Have you tried playing with a semi-hard formable material, that you can dynamically shape by hand (without a need to irreversibly sand or carve) ... just so you can try different grip shapes ?

I can sand very precise shapes in basswood. I can use clay/putty too.

Gee, I appreciate your offer...but I will keep the cougar.
Especially seeing that I made your dayhiker slingshot.
Even though the cougar is very pretty..The dayhiker I made for myself, is just as accurate.
I do like the carbon fibre handle on the cougar. It is exquisite indeed.
She is a keeper...and some people think mine are too.
