So, this morning I banded up Boston Blacky (my new catty) with tapered doubled black thera band. And it shot very very nice. Handslaps were vicious with 3/8 steel so I moved up to 7/16. Still handslaps. 1/2 inch behaved nicely, no handslaps. So I set up a target.

I decided to post my target even though, before I did this, I had only put around 8 or 10 rounds through her, so the bands weren't broken in yet. Here's the result.

Then after another 10 minutes or so of shooting look at what happened.

This is the third set of black thera band bands that have broken after making under 50 shots. What am I doing wrong???? I tie it at the pouch with soft cotton twine using a constrictor knot, same as I do with any other bands. HELP ME!! Posted Image

I like that slingshot a lot.....it strikes me as a Fish Hunter fork melded to the Bunny Buster Ergo handle. Or, you could just say it's a great independent design as there's only so many ways to design a catapult.

Sucks that your bands popped like that.....I don't know what else you could do differently. The edges of the bands look like they were cut very well and you used soft cotton to bind on the pocket. I'll leave this one to the Theraband shooters; I'm certain several of them will be along shortly to help.

Hey Dayhiker, really a nice catty! I don't know what you are doing wrong. I use TB black for short bandsets, too!

They last very long. Not as long as a ZDP bandset. If you like to try one out i could send you a few!

Try tying the bands with strips of the black thera instead of with string.

Thanks, Sam, but once I get used to this shooter and break in a set of bands, I can do much better.

Recurve, I will try anything. This black is nice to shoot with. Currently I am shooting with a set that I cut longer and it seems to be holding up so far, at least I got more than 50 shots on it. :)

Bill, I've had the best luck when the non tag band rolls over and around the tag end (sort of like making it a tube wrap over) before tying and yes rubber scrap for the tie off seems to be more forgiving. Don't pre-stretch too much- appears you may be at the diminishing returns point on the stretch.
The Blackie looks awesome! I like the design execution

Aluminium is great for slingshot frames because it can polished to a much higher degree than wood, especially plywood, which obviously results in longer band-life! Posted Image

No, RC. It did break at the pouch -- it did that to me three bandsets in a row! But adding length the bands seems to have maybe cured that. I was stretching them just about to the max before. Also I stretch less when I tying, as Skit advised (above). I'm keeping count. Next set I will tie off with rubber as you and Skit suggest. Thanks guys B)
