hello everyone. my name is colt. here's my slingshot story. for a long time i've been interested in firearms, airguns(modification), as well as general shopinterests. so a couple of years ago i get curious and look for a slingshot community and find very little. i check again a couple months later and here i am with a large community and a reliable source of high quality rubber. i've been lurking for a while, quietly attempting to make a decent slingshot to share, and after recently buying a bigger gas torch i think i have something you'll enjoy seeing. i don't really call it this but i guess you could, here is the "ram" shot. *note the ram horn shaped band attatchment points. it's my variation on the chinese variety of slingshot and i think it is a pretty cool design. it's made from 5/16" steel rod. the handle construction is 550 cord wrapping and to fill some space i used some 1/2" pvc flattened and clamped between the rod. i hope you find my work appealing. i'll explain the band attatchment method in more depth later on.

Two thumbs up! Looks cool. I never thought of using full size tubing for the Chinese style, but I guess with the right tubes it should work as well as the skinny Chinese rubber.

That's cool. I like the way you kept the fork low. How strong is the pull with double bands?

it's pretty strong i'd say over 35# but probably below 45#. i sure will send a .44 lead ball down range though. i'll send it through the chrony as soon as i get the chance and give measurements.

but wont the bands slip out through the gaps?

I think the low fork will aid in the heaver draw to make this a accurate shooter good job and keep it up.

It's hard to be sure from the picture, but it appears that the bands will automatically align themselves near the top and to the outside of the loops, and that corrects a serious (in my opinion) design flaw of the round loop Dankungs. Kudos! You have created a design that I predict will be much emulated. BTW, I use some green Theraband and the setup you're using should really drive a heavy ball.

thanks everyone. the idea behind my band attatchment was to make it easier on the bands during replacement and with the cork screw configuration force the bands to slightly angle out. it does both of those quite well. there is no messing with the bands to make a quick shot. another goal was versatility and flat bands can easily be attatched. as soon as i can get more lead to mould i'll send it through the chrony. i'm working on a sling bow design as well. i hope to match or beat the performance of my martin 45# recurve.

that sounds about right, depending on how much you stretch it.

right, but i wonder how hard to pull and what effects on the pouch? looks nice, better than the dankungs w/2 green tubes you might need to make a pouch out of a thimble or cut off spoon lol!

That's something you'll be able to keep for the rest of your life without worrying about degradation or breaking it at all! Have you tried Chinese bands on it? Those theratubes look very beefy.

why does everyone hate heavy bands? i can't even target practice unless i am using my strongest bands.

I have a RAM that i traded colt a natural for and love it. It is a small size but the heavy rod gives it a nice heft that is a joy to shoot. one of my favorites.
