I have had just about everything in air guns and I still like my old pump up 22 Benjamin, to shoot that is, better than any others. I can cut playing cards into from 20 feet with it and it has the same point of impact from free hand or from rest. I have killed a squirrel from 55 paces with a Benjamin (not the one I have now). I do have a 1937 Telly spring gun that is very unusual, but I have sold all of my other old air guns. -- Tex

Yes that is correct! I did not find my old Telly on Google, so here it is. It is 44 I/2 inches long with a barrel length of 20 1/2 inches. It weighs just a tad over 6 pounds AV. It shoots about 500 FPS. It had a broken spring (one of two) in it when I got it and the spring that replaced those two was not quite as strong. It is still a grand old rifle and all parts are machined except the spring. -- Tex

Whats a Red Ryder ? .... will google it.
Venom used to be top of the shop spring gun tuners when i had my guns. Bet thats got a smooooth cocking and firing cycle !
1937 Telly spring gun ?? er i'm gonna google that too !

I knew i'd heard of the Binjanin Sheridan's as soon as i saw the pic I recognised it. Not 100% sure but i think they had an unusual or in some way different way to mount a scope ? in the UK we used dove tail scope grooves. Might be wrong on this so dont quote me :) oh yer they would do well over the legal limit for UK un licensed air guns and .20 must of been a bit knew to ?

Red Ryder is the classic American BB rifle by daisy, used to be a great little gun, now they are mostly plastic.
My Sheridan has no rail to attach a scope, I believe newer ones do. and yes it's a pump, 6 pumps is the max and more than enough power to take small game at close range..

My 97 will be the one they pack in my coffin when I finally leave this dust ball. After dozens and dozens of adult precision air rifles from built Crosmans to BAMS to Dianas to Beemans/Weihrauchs, I found my grail in an unassuming Maccari sprung 12 ft lb pellet stacker. I sent off an R1 and R7 as well as a QB/AR2078 to new owners recently. I'm officially down to the just 97, and imho, there isn't one finer. Monsieur Curwen, je suis d'accord avec vous.

It is very accurate, with the simplicity of a spring gun.

I take the best of it with h&n fied target trophy pellets.
Don't know the power with the new spring and seal, but i manage to shoot a walnut at 50m, and a soda can at 75m, more than enough for me :)

Airguns are another interest of mine. I have a few, but when I really want to hit what I aim at it's Benji 392 with peep sight. I would like to try one of those new gas spring guns.

iirc those H&N's are what the Beeman Field Target Specials(made by H&N) are based on and the 97 prefers them. Seems to pretty universal among the 97 series.
I have 3 full sleeves of the FTS and a sleeve of JSB Exact for back up. Somehow managed to end up with a sleeve and a half of H&N Kodiak Gold 10.5 grain pells must be leftover from the R1 or Diana 40.
Excellent shooting at 50 and 75m , that takes some serious ability. I was shooting 10m quite regularly. People scoff at shooting so close but offhand at 10m is actually tough when the 10 'ring' is the size of a period. . ← that big!

I have a Weihrauch HW 100, very nice airgun. Real accurate and modern looking.

I also own a Diana 25 made in the sixties, before they limited the legal power to just 7,5 Joules. It probably has 14 to 16 Joules. I can own it legally because it was in the market before the restriction was imposed. I sanded down metal and wood when I got it, it was in rough shape. Now I consider buying a new barrel, not too expensive, Dianas are popular.

ahh Theoben Gas spring / Strut ? when Theoben brought out their Fenman rifle (gas strut), very short barrel. The airgun press shot it from a solid bench rest (usually the worst thing to do with a spring gun) and it almost shot a one hole group. They said it was down to the lock time being so quick. This they said made it a very good hunting gun as it took a lot of human error out of the shot. I loved the look of the Fenman. Not cheap though. You used to be able to buy a retro fit Theoben gas strut to. They where £50 ish to fit the BSA Supersport. Back in the day.

My go to break barrel is the very common RWS 34. I definitely requires a "springer hold" and does not bench well. I have yet to see a conversion kit for the 34, which is strange given their popularity. They have them for Gamos I see.

I have a Daisy model 953 single-pump pneumatic for target shooting. Upgraded it to the high-end model 753 rear diopter sight and front globe sight. Added model 853 spacers to extent the length of pull of its short stock. Did a trigger job. This thing is a wonderful shooter and extremely accurate at 10 meters (what it was designed for). It's not a hunting air rifle.

I also have a Gamo Shadow 1000 springer for <What? I've never figured that out!> It was the first air rifle I ever bought and it was on sale. I replaced the trigger with a GRT-III trigger and that makes for a fantastic upgrade. I recrowned the muzzle and added a muzzle weight. It has a little 4x32 BSA ".22 Special" scope on it (rated for air rifles). Being a springer, the Gamo still jumps around a bit when fired. It recoils more than a .22 rifle (not that that's a great amount of recoil in the first place). I would not call it "quiet" either. It's quieter than a firearm for sure, but nowhere near as quiet as my Daisy 953 pneumatic air rifle. Getting a tune on it would probably do wonders, but I can't see spending that kind of money on an inexpensive air rifle. Especially since I have no real use for it (I don't hunt).

I also have a Crossman 1377 multi-pump pneumatic pistol for target use and plinking. Recrowned this air gun too, and did a trigger job. It is a fantastic little air pistol. Extremely accurate. Fun to shoot.

All of the above are .177 caliber.

Plus 1 on the 1377. I think it is the best airgun bargain on the market. I hogged out the valve a bit, lightened the valve spring and smoothed up the air ports for a little more umph -- it will easily clear 12 pumps now. Outside I added the black fore end from the "Backpacker" and the shoulder stock to make a nice little carbine. I have a longer barrel for it but it needs cut and crowned before I put it on. With a cheap red dot scope it is scary accurate.
