nged SURPRISED  Stopped over to the PO box... opened and reached in. Only about an inch because there was a parcel stuffed in it and wedged snuggly. Working it loose, I glanced at the return addy  <- that beams across my face because I know it's something special... I wasn't disappointed with that thought. Hurrying back home ripping the package open just inside the door *Gasp* ... That DayHiker guy is some kinda craftsman! Very kinda Craftsman. This is what was in the package

Thank YOU Bill! Very beautiful fork. Is this the result of the salt boil concoction we were talking about?
I will be putting a 1/2 of a TexShooter Express set on it with a wee lil pouch in 2oz tan should make it *just* right all around. .

OK, I'm doing the same thing with some green Manzanita forks I got last week. I peeled one the Saturday before last and the other the next day and the first already started to crack because of drying. I put them in a plastic bag in my cooler until I got home them boiled them in salt water for two hours. They have dried over the week and look great. No more cracking and they feel like they have dried over months.

My question is how much salt do you all use and how long do you boil for? I probably use too much salt and cook for too long.

Oh, great forks!

Boiled for 20 min., didn't measure the salt, but put quite a bit in.

I used about a cup and a half of salt. The interesting thing was after I stripped the red bark off, the fork was white. After I boiled the forks the water was red and the forks look died light pink. Just the nature of the wood I think.

This wood is very smooth after stripping the bark off. One I hit with a scotch brite pad and the other I'm doing the whole super fine finish job on.

This can be addicting!

Here she is fully dressed with her 1st trophy B) May there be many more. Extended trials will have to wait ... I'm not as tough as Lil Beauty. After shooting this as shown, I've decided when my TheraBlack is gone, I will be switching back to Tex's bands - much easier to work with and versatile as all get out.
