I've had this glued up for months, I just banged it out yesterday on the new belt sander. Torsten's shooters look comfortable to me, so I tried to mimic the proportions. Hasn't been shot yet, I just finished it after dark. First attempt at superglue finish, love the look, hate the grip. It's like grabbing an ice cube. Gonna rough it up a bit. I think it's gonna shoot just fine. And at least the dog likes it.

Looks good. The last photo I didn't expect, "the dog neckalce" got a chuckle out of me. He looks like he isn't sure about it yet.

I have tried a couple of CA finifshed cattys. Like Dayhiker mentioned about too smooth if the catty isn't a sure fit and grip a super smooth finish might not be so fun/safe. Too the CA can be awesome for the right style catty but its extra work.

I don't know about it being extra work, Ray. If you apply with a finger, you've eliminated the whole brush-cleaning tedium. And if you sand between coats... well I do that with varnish too. If you ask me, a three-coat CA finish is worth a five-coat Varnish finish (could be wrong there). I conclude that this makes a CA glue finish easier.

(Though by no means always appropriate. A CA glue finish on a red oak natural, for example, would be a sin of the highest caliber.)

As an added benefit of my experiments with CA glue, I have now taken the finger application method over to Helmsman's Spar Varnish and it's working like a charm -- no brushes, no cleanup except my fingertip. I'm lovin' it. You can get really thin coats this way, too, which always look better than the thicker coats (and runs) you often get with a brush. No hairs either.

One other thing: I really really hate the CA fumes.

Good job, nice laminate! Love the pic as well with the dog. He's looking at you like, "ok only one snap, then you promised out we
go for a nice long walk & shoot."

which torsten shooter is this modled after? i think the chunky one's just fit the hand better, cant do board cuts unless they have palm swells, but thats what happens once the years catch up to you

Thanks Bob, I was referring to the slickness of the finish. The fit is pretty ideal. Thanks for the comments, guys
