Hey everybody, long time no see!
A happy 2012 to you all!
I haven't posted much the last weeks, but I took some time today to finally upload the pictures of the awesome gifts shawnr5 sent me! I've had these since I got back from vacation a month ago, but my phone camera could not have done those two justice, so I had to borrow a halfway decent digicam.
So without further ado, here is the SSS from Shawn. It's Zebrano with a walnut core, feels like it looks, and it looks great!

A great shooter!

But it does not end here, Shawn included another slingshot in the package and gave me a punisher slingshot!!! I'm not sure what materials he used (besides the rifle cartridges), but this slingshot rocks! See for yourselves:

So, as you can see, my 2012 started out pretty good :D! Thanks a lot, Shawn, those are two gems in my collection! Now I'll have to build a display of some kind to show them off in a fitting manner...

Have fun with them, mono.. The Punisher one is birdseye maple over a Baltic birch core. The black is dyed birdseye maple.

ah, thanks for the info. and what about the pouches, did you glue the leather this way or did you get it like this? and if you did it, what glue do you use?

(the pouches the ssss's came with are from leather that seems to be gued together at the "smooth side" - so they have two "rough sides", but are no less flexible)

Nothing special about the leather. It came that way when I bought it at the craft store. Thank you for asking. That reminds me that I need to go buy some more. I have to make slingshots for a Boy Scout Camp and need to send up extra band sets with them. Today I have to cut frames, do laundry and install an amplifier in my truck for the subwoofer. No rest for the wicked.

I see, you're a busy bee. I'm curios what you will make for the boyscout camp, how many ss will you make?
Thanks for the info about the leather, I was hoping to learn what kind of glue can patch leather like this, it's really nice and flexible. Well, I would not have the money to buy some, anyway.
On an unrelated note, I bought two kangaroo hides a few days ago. Pretty nice, only thing is, I was meaning two buy 2 square decimeters of kangaroo leather for 4 euro, did not understand the ordering system, and what I got were two whole hides for 200 euro. Ouch. :ups:  :o :aahhhh: :banghead:

200 euro, that's an expensive lesson to learn. Sounds like you need to split them up and sell some (a whole bunch) here on the forum. The project for the scouts isn't that bad. I'm making a dozen of Bill Hays' Patriots out of 19mm Baltic birch plywood. I'll band them up with theraband gold and need to make at least an extra dozen band sets so they can "be prepared."

... whenever I hear "be prepared"; I have to think of the Tom Lehrer song...
I sorted things out with the company I ordered the kangaroos from, I won't even have to pay the retour postage, so everything will be ok.
