I've decided I'm just going to learn how to laminate instead of worrying about it any further.

I'm thinking about picking up a bamboo cutting board type item for the core. Or buying a stack of bamboo cutting boards and making one of the hardwoods the core. That would probably be good to do with that piece of Ipe since it's so brittle. It's Really hard and has a very nice weight but very brittle indeed.

I'll deal with sanding or finding a place to plane these later. The pattern on my last piece of Red Oak is still waiting to be cut so I have time to look around.

you got a router?you can make a surfacing jig if you have a decent router. i just run em through a table saw, but i wouldn't suggest that if you don't know what you're doing

Nope, no router.

I have hand drills, skill saws and jigsaws and that's about it.
