I was wondering around Home Depot looking at their hardwood but walked passed the section where they have precut flat sections for steps. They make one out of laminated bamboo ($18+tax) I think it's 1.5'' thick too

Good call?

It will make one very chunky slingshot that's for sure. Bamboo's a great material, very strong and easy to work.

I found some good OAK material at Home Depot. In the "stair/trim" area they have 1" stair treads and 3/4" material.

If i can't get a hold of some decently priced multiplex i may pick up a stair tread :) + I'm sure the bamboo tread i found was 1.5"? I'll look again.

Cheers

I noticed those oak stair treads last time I was in Lowe's and was actually wondering if anyone else had used them.
Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seemed more dense than their birch or oak multiplex boards.

Bamboo can be very strong 'wood' (it's really a type of grass I believe.) It's very springy and can take great weights. They still use it in Asia as a common scaffolding material, so you know if it hold men with just a few lashings then it good. Can't say I've ever seen bamboo boards though. I'm wondering how they go about laminating it into a board..

I may pay for materials but the nice thing about home depot is that if you find, say, a damaged/scratched board then you might get monies off :)
