SPS #14 was the first opportunity to work with the Osage that Jay gave me last year. The board he gave me has alot of chequeing (SP?), but nonetheless, beautiful. The wood for one face had some cheques prior to laminating, but I still proceeded to use it. The cheques are stabilized, and I feel they added some character. This frame is available for 149.99 + shipping, and will be equipped with a looped tube bandset.

SPS #15 features Indigenous Black Locust that was cut last year when we are cutting down dead trees along right-a-ways. I brought home alot of this wood for buring in my wood stove. I decided to cut some planks from a large stump, and planed them down. This frame is available for $149.99 + shipping, and will be equipped with a looped tube bandset.

Now there is a wood you don't see much of and it's a sin too because it is straight up awesome! Black Locust is strong ,hard and takes on a wonderful patina after awhile. As for Osage, what can you say-strong , very hard ,finishes very smooth and also gets a nice darker patina with age. Both stunning slingshots=GO PERFORMANCE!!!!!! Flatband

I have a couple logs of that that have been under my porch drying for about 20 yrs. Afraid to use it because it will probably ruin my tools.

The two species almost mirror one another with their hardness and specific gravity. Even the grains have similar detail. The trees however, are totally different. From the bark, to the leaves and flower, there are no similarities. You will definately need to sharpen your tools before and after cutting either of the two.
