Hello Hawk... you won the stuff in the can shooting contest Man!
I'll tell you what I've learned through MUCH trial, error and correct when striking matches with a slingshot as well... so you can get some lightups on video.
First you want to have the match holder/clamp to have a little give... a large pony clamp is about perfect. The weight allows a little give, plus you can angle the match about 11 degrees towards you... which is the next part of the equation. Angle the match so that you can hit the red and white at the same time with a scrape... not a hit.
If you hit the match head it'll merely knock a chunk off, but if you barely scrape the thing when it's at the correct angle and has a little give... then you've got fire!
You'll notice on some of my videos whenever I use the larger clamp the matches light fairly easily it seems... but when shooting at the ones that are suspended upside down and in a tiny pony clamp... those don't light nearly as easily. So my suggestion is light up a few and get it on video using the large stationary pony clamp setup before moving on to the "impossibly difficult" suspended upside down and held by a tiny clamp setup..
Anyway, have FUN and good luck, it's one of if not the most difficult shots that can be done with any weapon. The only thing more difficult would be a thrown into the air match, then strike it with a slingshot.... and that's not going to happen anytime soon.
I know you're more than capable and now you've got the same matches I use... so get 'er done!
