[The Gopher]

This is a new design that I came up with. Although it looks simple, there was probably more thought that went into it than any other slingshot i've designed. You see this model is called GS-1.618. Some of you may know that the ratio of 1.618 is known by several names: Divine ratio, Divine proportion, Golden ratio, etc. It is actually a very interesting topic.

There are 9 instances of the divine ratio worked into the layout of this slingshot. They say that design and architecture that uses the divine ratio is more pleasing to the eye, I have to agree, i like the way this slingshot looks. It feels good in the hand too.

The slingshot is made from a piece of red oak that came from my Dad's old staircase. Last time my folks came to visit he brought 3 large totes full of oak boards that are perfect for pretty much nothing but slingshots!

No Stain, wipe on poly finish.

By the way, do you mean it's only a poly finish or wipe on poly finish?

I totally agree with your use of 1.618. I use it in all of my design work. That and the fibonacci sequence.

It's a wipe-on polyurethane than Minwax makes. I just apply with my finger. It dries super fast, i can re-coat in a couple hours.

I think "1,618" is the ratio that gives harmonious proportions whether used consciously or instinctively. It's interesting to apply the divine ratio like Leonardo Da Vinci or the Canon of Vitruvius to make catapults.

I am not up to speed with the "Golden Ratio" but I do practice the "Golden Rule".
