I called a good friend of mine the other day to talk-what else-slingshots! His name is Blue Skeen. Blue has been feeling very good of late. He plans on going to the East Coast Slingshot Tournament again this year. We were talking and he said,"you know I like that Ergo style of yours but I like the prongs about an inch taller-you think you could make me one? Are you kidding me? I told Blue I am honored that he would like one of mine. Anyway, I picked out a nice slab of Osage and we went for it. Hope he likes it. Too high for me by a bunch. Here's a picture: Flatband

Very very nice.

I assume that's the natural colour of the wood without any stains ?

The colour is just amazing.

Correct.

Osage is the strongest wood in North America, IMO. There might be a species that ranks higher on the janka hardness scale, but not stronger. Long fibers that don't chip like harder, exotic woods. A very high butane rating to boot. Love to burn it in my wood stove. It pops alot when burning, so it cannot be burned in a normal, fireplace. It will literally spit hot coals onto the floor. It's a butt-ugly tree, that can be dangerous to walk around, because of the "strong as nails" like thorns, that are produced.

Definately, one of my favorite woods to work with, and its native to my immediate area.

The Flatband ergo is a great shooter. Blue must be using some thin flats and doesn't need the leverage. Nice going Gary!

Thanks Guys. I would do anything for Blue. I also agree with Jimmy, Osage is simply awesome wood. Curly Maple was always a favorite with me but Osage is gaining fast! ( Bring some boards Jim! )I'll buy some and so will Tom ( BunnyBuster). Tough stuff to get around here. Did I hear that Ray ( Natural Fork) is coming to the PA shoot? Very Cool! Everyone come we'll have a heck of a time! I know big Joerg from Germany is coming too. He's always fun and a wonderfufl guy too. Going off track there Gary-sorry! Flatband :hmm:

I've see a guy make a traditional bow outta this stuff from a full stave (you tube. 3 part tutorial. Where else?) awesome job he did too and shoots like..... it shoots very well.
