This one is 2 first for me my first persimmon fork I shaped and first time I carved finger grips in a natural. After getting it shaped up and all I stained it with homemade walnut stain I made from walnut hulls then hit it with some sand paper to rough up the color. It looks a lot better inperson than this crap cell pictures show. But it is a little rough which is the look I was going for.

I hear that is some kind of wood Bigfoot. Very hard, solid, tight grained. I have been trying to get a board of that stuff. Tough to come by. Someone told me they use that stuff for Golf Club heads? WEll then it is really strong! Flatband

Ya it is nice to work with similiar to dogwood too me anyway. It is very hard and we have a lot of persimmon trees around here. My grandfather used to be a big time golfer he said a lot of the high end clubs are made of it. Best thing about persimmon is this time of year the fruit is getting ripe and man is it good I could eat it til I explode.

Instead of making a whole new thread figured I would add to this one. Here is persimmon number 2. I don't normally post all the ones I make but since this is a new wood to me thought I would show a few examples. Plus this ones pretty cool I think. I left the bark on just sanded her down good still got to wax it but already looks pretty neat. The handle is a little shorter than I like a missed swing with hatchet when taking it off tree is the cause of that.

There are at least 2 persimmon forks in my garage drying out and I can't wait for them to get ready. The limb broke a couple of months ago due to too much weight after a rain. The tree is now full of fruit without a single leaf on the tree.

Those are beautiful Bigfoot. I especially like the effect of leaving some of the bark on. Thanks for show them.

Bigfoot, seriously, I really think they both look very nice. They have a nice warm hand made character. Nothing at all ugly about them.

Thanks, Dayhiker that means a lot I am by no means a craftsman or artist like others here but this is a great way to spend a evenening after a stressful day. They are for sure handmade just a mora clipper and some sande paper the first one started off as a massive fork several hours later she finally lost those extra curves.

It is always good to see someone who enjoys a natural and can utilize all of its beauty such as leaving the bark, inner bark and/or worm markings to show natures work at its best.

Keep up the good work.
