I just wanted to say "hello" to you all as well as a heartfelt "thank you".
I've been lurking out here for the last couple weeks getting up to speed
on the latest (and traditional) slingshot techniques and technology.
While I've used firearms and bow for most of my life, (although almost
not at all over the last decade+...shooting in the backyard was ok when
I lived in the country, but it tends to be frowned on when you live
in the city -at least in this part) my couple years of experience with
slingshotting never amounted to much...I could never get any consistent
results with the commercial slingshots that I had to practice with (although
I had a lot of fun trying), so I didn't pursue it the way I usually do the
various things that catch my interest.
However, since I found this forum, I've ordered several slingshots from
a couple of the onsite vendors and have spent a fair number of hours
starting to learn to use them (nobody notices you burning off a few hundred
shots in the backyard when you're using a slingshot!).
Thanks to the great advice available online here, my results have far
exceeded what I managed in the past on my own (not that my shootings
anything to brag about by any means, it's just a lot better than it's
ever been in the past and is improving daily). I'm hoping that
with some luck -and a lot of enjoyable practice- things will continue
to improve. You guys are really an inspiration.
I'm also digging out my tools to make a few of the excellent shared-designs
that you've made available here. My initial thought was to purchase a few,
decide which "one" I liked best, and hand the rest out to friends.
While I'll be giving some away, I don't think it will work quite the way
I planned...I'm having too much fun with the ones I've already gotten my
hands on and already see a "collection" of shooters in my future.
:-)
I'm afraid that friends and family will have to "dip their toes
in" using the "extra" ones that I make...but given the excellent designs,
tuning tips, and shared experience available on this site, I don't
think that any of them are going to end up disappointed.
Once again, I want to thank you all for getting me back into a sport that
I'm rapidly becoming a fanatic about. Your willingness to share has really
made a difference.
(FWIW, I'm more of a "lurk'er" than a "chat'er", -I tend to have a lot more
time to read than try to reply even if/when I DO have something worthwhile
to say, but I really do want to say thanks...not many sites or site members
are like this one. The people are great and the information is excellent.
I'm sure glad you all are out here!)
