Texas Visit Almost Over

Posted by Henry in Panama in Henry in Panama's Blog, 30 April 2012 - - - - - - · 49 views
texas, sabine county

It's almost over. I fly back home in a week. It's been great visiting with family, but it will also be great getting back home.

This was an unplanned trip, prompted by my oldest daughter's almost fatal illness. She spent 6 weeks in the Shreveport, LA VA hospital, and at one point was not expected to live through the night. She made a miraculous...

Performance Catapults SPS

Posted by AaronC in NightKnight's Blog, 04 January 2012 - * * * * * · 663 views

This is my review of my latest slingshot, which is designed and produced by Jim Harris at Performance Catapults. It is called the SPS.

I ordered mine in Cocobolo. I chose Cocobolo because of its beauty. I find the Dark wood, with defined grain pattern very pleasing to the eye. Well, my eye anyway. But, I also chose it for practical reasons. Cocobolo is a...

Terminal Ballistics - A model to predict penetration depth

terminal ballistics and 3 more...

Summary
In this blog entry, I use data published by The Slingshot Channel to come up with a simplified formula to predict the depth of penetration of slingshot projectiles in ballistics gelatin. Gelatin has some initial resistance to penetration, but once you get over 20m/s (65fps), you can expect the the projectile to penetration its own diameter...

Sadly, I was unable to find Newton's First and Second Laws. I wonder if they have Hooke's Law?

Normally one would do an introduction entry first, but that's not how LGD rolls :D.. That and I am not that organized :P.

So I been a little under the weather lately (long story), and even more under the weather that my "under the weather-ness" caused me to miss the opening day of deer season. I probably won't be able to be in the tree stand until Oct. 4, 4 days in.

Anyway, I wanted to make this entry because I posted pics of my first natural and boardcut.

Deflex Frame Geometry for Slingshots

Posted by watcher by night in Watcher by Night's Blog, 13 June 2011 - - - - - - · 646 views

Here's a shot of a "deflex slingshot" I've been working on. Down at the bottom of this entry there's a few more pics.

In archery, sometimes bows are described in terms of deflex or reflex geometry. A reflex bow has limbs or a handle that angle away from the shooter, while a deflex bow has limbs or riser that angle towards the ...

Why the big pouch?

Posted by jmplsnt in jmplsnt's Gypsy Rambler, 15 April 2011 - * * * * * · 520 views

Hello again my slingshot friends. In this blog entry I wish to give an explanation of the larger pouches found on my slingshots. I want to state now and for the record I’m writing about my preferences and not downing anyone or their equipment….much less their elastics of choice. Lord knows we’ve gotten bogged down in that...

Drop box idea

Posted by Dennis the Menace in Dennis the Menace's Blog, 20 March 2011 - - - - - - · 267 views

I've been thinking about making some kind of drop box to catch the incoming shots, preferrably reliable enough to use inside the house. Something with a lot of 45 angled boards and a slope at the bottom to send back the rounds. The whole thing shouldn't become bigger than 80cm wide by 60cm high and deep. Nothing decided yet.

As some of you know I'm preparing for my first tournament in April (the ECST). Most of the advice I've been given has been along the lines of "pick one slingshot and don't use any other. I know everyone's different, but this may not be the best advice.
I've pretty much decided that...

Pocket Poachers

Posted by whipcrackdeadbunny in whipcrackdeadbunny's Blog, 06 October 2010 - - - - - - · 321 views

For the past few days, I've been using two 'Pocket Poachers' sent to me by the most estimable of English catapult makers, the Hogan's Castings workshop. I've been using them with square and flat bands, inside and out, over short distances (with instinctive targeting) and longer ones (with standard targeting techniques)

Firstly; on...
