Saunders and the Flat band slingshot

Posted by Tex-Shooter , 31 March 2010 · 583 views

I have been asked why I support Saunders archery so much. When I started shooting again in 1999, I saw very few shooters (mainly Blue Skeen and Ivan Glen) using flat bands and no manufactures of flat band slingshots. I am speaking of modern day ones and not one’s from the 60’s. I approached four slingshots companies in 2000 about flat band slingshots. Only Saunders Archery was interested in what I had to say. When Saunders replied to me I visited with Charles and showed him why I liked flat band slingshots. I carried a couple of my slingshot with bands on them like Blue and Ivan shot. Charles then took the ball and his company designed the Wrist Rocket Pro. They spent a lot of money reintroducing flat band slingshots, researching them and bring them to the world. Since then several others have jumped on the band wagon and that is OK. Now the reason that I am a big supporter of Saunders Archery is because I feel that if it was not for them, most would still be shooting tubes of solid rounds or squares of rubber and I for one feel indebted to them for the contribution they have laid out for the sport. Oh and they make a fine slingshots and are consistently upgrading them and there accessories. Here are just a few of there flat band achievements. First all weather slingshot. First pad lockable slingshot. First foldable extended fork style. First ramp style fork tips. Fail safe design. Quick change tips for flat bands. First good no tie connection between flat bands and pouch. First Commercial thin flat band design with molded pocket pouches. Band sets for long term storage. Pipper sight. You see all of these things cost money to develop for a large company and we all reap the benefits from there investment even when we are making our own. I for one think that it would be a shame if a company such as this went out of business because of lack of support. -- Tex

Bill, I completely agree with you. Saunders is clearly the most innovative company out there. Too bad that the Hawk is pretty much the only legal model for Germany, because of the brace ban.

The one product I would like them to design would be a Hawk with lower forks, so you could put on stronger bands and still shoot it without too much wrist strain. That would certainly enhance their chances in the German market.

Regards

Jörg
