Last month I was contacted by a Mom who has two young sons about a year apart in age. They had decided that they wanted to get into slingshot shooting but didn't want the folding metal ones from the store. When they saw the pictures on my website they were excited and persistent that their Mom contact me. They both have an appreciation for wood because they are apart of the Scouting program.
Due to the fact that one of the boys has a hand weakness disability the mother was concerned that he would not be able to shoot a slingshot. I assured her that I believed I could build a set of slingshots that would allow both brothers to enjoy shooting together.
Knowing the work that Joerg, Smitty and others had done with the "glove shot" design I knew it would be just the ticket for someone with a "pincer grip" weakness. I began with the basic design and it evolved into this shape before I was happy with it. I think the boys with have a great time learning to shoot and someone who might not have ever tried will get a chance at this wonderful sport. Here's the finished set for the brothers that will be headed out to them soon. Both in multiplex and stained Golden Pecan. A "Hand Bracer" slingshot and a PS-1 as a companion set up with single bands for the young boys to learn with.
Hope you've enjoyed seeing a little bit of what's been going on in the shop at A+ Slingshots. Until next time....keep stretching and shooting!!!!
Update 7/18/2010
Well the boys are finally shooting the slingshots . The dad says "They need a little work on their technique." but they look like they're having fun to me!!! That's what it's all about.
